I stand by my work. I design to L/700, you do not have to know what this means, it's a ratio that helps determine floor performance, industry standard is L/480. I will not design for less. This is non-negotiable.
When we are at the point, that the plans are finalized and our agreement is at a zero balance, my work is done. Like I said on the last page - I stick around after the permit is pulled, to ensure the work is being done accurately.
I had one incident in my years pounding nails and over-seeing projects. Come to find out is was the fault of a co-workers, he still doesn't know it was him. Long story short, With the help of the lumberyard, I was able to retain a local structural engineer and aided in solving a pretty serious problem - ask me about it. What started off with not so happy homeowners wanting $10,000 for compensation turned into all happy parties spending $4,500 labor, materials, and engineering.
If there is something serious that went wrong, I will be the first one there. I will hire an independent structural engineer, no questions asked - we will figure it out. I will NOT go back in six months to spray WD on a squeaky hinge, or fix a leaky faucet, we simply do not have the time for this.
